This book is not suitable for those under 18. I’m a little disappointed that this is the way Maas chose to up the age bracket for her new series, but luckily it isn’t the only way. The plot doesn’t lend itself to a particularly adult audience.

I especially love HOSAB and the Crescent City series because I love how it blends the modern world and fantasy elements. And yes, again dear reader, this book is the most STEAMY out of SJM’s books, on an entirely new level from event A Court of Silver Flames).

There are plenty of queer characters in this book, and their queerness is portrayed in such a way to suggest that it is no big deal in this fantasy society.
Is a court of thorns and roses inappropriate?
All in all, it probably is not as bad as some video games out there, but yet not appropriate for young teens. Much of the violence is similar to The Hunger Games with the amount of blood and violence. The real reason why it isn’t appropriate for teens, though, is the adult content.
Can a 13 year old read Throne of Glass?
These connections are the reason I personally & professionally recommend the series to children beginning at age 10 who are reading at a 6.5-7+ grade level, primarily due to the challenging vocabulary.
