Darkly Dreaming Dexter is a 2004 novel by Jeff Lindsay, the first in his crime horror series about forensic analyst/serial killer Dexter Morgan. It formed the basis of the Showtime television series Dexter and won the 2005 Dilys Award and the 2007 Book to TV award.
What did Dexter look like in the books?
His appearance is very similar: he is a very well-built black man, who is physically imposing with an innate gift for his job. The main difference is that while the character dies in the show, he has his legs, arms, and tongue removed in the book. This means that he looks pretty different upon his final appearance.
